Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus), called "Queen of Herbs" in Ayurveda, is the most important herb for women's health in the Ayurvedic pharmacopeia. Its Sanskrit name โ Shatavari โ literally means "she who possesses a hundred husbands," reflecting its powerful ability to strengthen and nourish female reproductive tissues (Artava dhatu).
In Ayurvedic classification, Shatavari is a Stanya (promotes healthy lactation), Shukrala (improves reproductive fluid quality), and premier Rasayana for Pitta and Vata constitutions. It nourishes and rebuilds all body tissues (Sapta Dhatu) and is particularly beneficial for the plasma/lymph (Rasa) and reproductive tissues.
Key active compounds include steroidal saponins (shatvarins I-IV), polysaccharides, isoflavones, and asparagamine A โ which collectively support hormonal balance, immune modulation, and adaptogenic effects.
